Frequently Asked Questions
How old should my pet be to do pet therapy?
Your pet should be at least one year of age and have been living with you for at least six months.
What if my pet doesn’t qualify the first time? Can I retest right away or do I have to wait?
Pets often don’t quality the first time because they need to mature or they need more training. If you have a pet who loves people but just needs some training, contact K9 Campus to enroll in the 4-week Pet Therapy Prep Class - 3 weeks of training and the 4th week is the test www.morrisk9campus.com. If you take the test and fail, your evaluator will discuss a plan with you and recommend when/if you should re-test. If your pet exhibits aggression or severe stress during the evaluation then pet therapy would not be an option.
Will I still be able to do Pet Therapy with other organizations?
Yes, but you will only be covered by Creature Comfort insurance when you are on visits with facilities that have partnered with us.
What facilities will be available for me to visit?
We have approximately 30visits to fill each week - in a variety of different settings and facilities. We visit hospitals, schools, libraries, non profit agencies and nursing and rehab centers. We encourage you to try a number of visits to see what works best for you and your therapy pet.
Will I be visiting facilities on my own or with other teams?
Before you go out on your own, you will go out on one or two visits with an experienced therapy team. They will help you to feel more comfortable during your first visits. After that, you may go out by yourself or with one other team (as many facilities like to have two teams come for the scheduled visit).
Can I find some places to visit near my home?
Yes, if you find places near your home that would like visits from you and your pet, we will contact them to sign a contract and then you will be covered by our insurance.
I’d like to meet other people that are involved in pet therapy – will there be opportunities for this?
Absolutely! We feel that people often volunteer in order to meet others. And your pets should get to know the other furry visitors. We will be holding regularly scheduled meetings to socialize, share and learn. Some of these meetings will be with pets, some may just be for humans.
Will I be covered under insurance when I go on visits?
Yes, as long as the facility has signed an agreement with us.
I have some time on my hands right now – are there other opportunities to volunteer?
We have lots of opportunities. Please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org to discuss specific volunteer jobs.
I love your logo - can I purchase some clothing with the CCPT logo?
YES, we love to have people showing off our logo. We have t-shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, fleece vests, jackets & hats and windbreakers. Click here to see the list.
